How to make bracelets from rubber bands. How to weave a bracelet from rubber bands: “Caterpillar” Weave a bracelet caterpillar from rubber bands

The art of weaving with colored rubber bands came to us from America. You can weave anything from them: from earrings to swimsuits and dresses. There are many rubber bands of different colors, flavors, shapes, and there are even luminous ones. Therefore, from this variety you can choose the material you like and make a stylish thing from it. This will be the “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet, the manufacturing technology of which will be discussed in this article.

Bracelet "Caterpillar"

The rubber band method will allow needlewomen to develop their own style. In addition, elastic bands are inexpensive, and things made from them are not inferior in quality to modern costume jewelry, sometimes expensive.

When making things from rubber bands, each craftswoman will weave a decoration that suits her. The color scheme can be matched to specific outfits, which will make the image more complete.

The collection of elastic bracelets includes such types as “Wave”, “Bay Leaf”, “Bow”, “French Braid” and many others. The “Caterpillar” bracelet deserves special attention. It stands out among the rest in that the work is quite simple and at the same time beautiful and delicate.

What do you need

To weave a “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet, you need the following materials.

  • Elastic bands for weaving in different colors.
  • Hook for weaving.
  • Machine or slingshot.
  • Plastic clasp.

Before starting work, you need to study the diagram, read the instructions carefully, “Caterpillar”. If you have experience in weaving from rubber bands, then the work will be easy to complete.

A few words about the pattern by which the “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet is woven. First you need to work out the algorithm for performing weaves. It is better to train on elastic bands of contrasting colors so that you can better see the weave.

You need to learn how to perform a figure eight with a rubber band well and quickly. You also need to practice removing the elastic from the post using a hook. Moreover, there are two options for removing the elastic: on the machine it is thrown over the side, and on the slingshot there are internal weaves. We must learn to distinguish them from each other and use them where necessary.

These are simple weaving methods. Having learned how to weave such bracelets well, you can take up more complex techniques that will help you unleash your creative potential and bring pleasure from your work.

Now you need to be patient and attentive and you can start doing the work.

Weaving on a machine

Bracelets made from rubber bands are fun and elegant. The “caterpillar” on the machine is simple to perform.

On the machine, remove the middle bar of the posts, leaving only the outer ones. For weaving, we take two, for example, blue and red. In the first row, we make two figure eights from blue elastic bands on columns from corner to corner. This will be the only figure eight in the weave.

In the next row, red elastic bands are also worn from corner to corner. On top of them comes the blue color again. Now, using a crochet hook, remove the bottom blue elastic bands to the middle. Put the elastic bands back on and remove the bottom ones in the center. Thus, alternating red and blue loops, we weave a strip of the required length. To complete the weaving, you need to remove the elastic in the center, leaving only one at a time. Then we throw everything from each column onto one, pick up all four elastic bands, put it on the finger, stretch it and insert the hook. We put the other end of the hook on the first two loops.

The machine also performs weaving of larger bracelets. But we must remember that there are quite complex schemes, which can be started with thorough training.

Weaving on a slingshot

The “Caterpillar” bracelet made from rubber bands on a slingshot is made as follows. We put three rubber bands on the slingshot in a figure of eight. Then we remove the bottom one in the center and put a clip on it. Now we put on the rubber band again with a figure eight and remove the last one in the center. Repeat this row by row until the desired length and close with the second end of the clip.

The color design can be different: monochromatic, multi-colored without any strict pattern, or alternating contrasting colors.

Weaving on forks

Another way to weave a “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet is to weave with forks. For it, you need to take rubber bands of three colors, preferably contrasting ones, so that the weaving is clearly visible.

We carefully fasten the forks with tape, prepare 20 pieces of pink and orange elastic bands, 10 pieces of yellow ones (you can take colors as desired), and you will also need a hook for weaving.

We put the first yellow elastic band in a figure eight on the two outer prongs of both forks. Next comes an orange elastic band, fold it in half, put it on the two prongs of one fork and thread the end of the yellow one under it, throwing it onto the other fork. We fold the pink one in half, put it on the yellow one, thread the last one through and throw it over the orange one. Raise the orange rubber band above the yellow one, as usual.

We take the orange one again, fold it, put it on the yellow one, take it out and throw it on the pink one, remove the latter one in the center. And so on.

The outer colors are orange and pink, weave them in two elastic bands, then we divide the central yellow one into a figure of eight on both forks, put another yellow one on top, and remove the bottom one in the center. We throw one end of the yellow elastic band to the other side.

By making repeating blocks in this way, we weave to the desired length. At the end, divide the yellow elastic bands equally, throw the orange and pink ones into the center. We remove the edges of the yellow elastic bands onto one prong of a fork and then connect them with a clip to the other end of the bracelet.

Weaving on fingers

Let's consider another option, how to weave a bracelet from rubber bands "Caterpillar". The technology is the same as when working with a slingshot. With this method, our fingers will serve as columns, but otherwise the weaving will be similar. You can also do without a hook, but a clip for connecting both ends of the bracelet is still useful. You can make a multi-colored bracelet, as shown in the figure, or you can weave a pattern, for example, stripes of different colors, evenly replacing each other.

Weaving on nails

To make a “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet using this method, you must first prepare an improvised machine. It works as follows. We take a small board, sand it with sandpaper, drive two small nails with a hammer, at a distance of 3 cm from one another. This device will imitate a slingshot for weaving from rubber bands.

The pinnacle of excellence

Every needlewoman wants to make something that will not only be different from others, but will also become an example of her style. In this case, not only elastic bands are used for weaving, sometimes some other materials for crafts are added to them: ribbons, beads, pebbles, seed beads, ready-made flowers, etc. Such “highlights” will give the woven item exclusivity and an individual author’s style.

When an ordinary weave that anyone can make has such details, the product becomes unique: no one else has such an accessory.

Thus, the classic pattern for making a “Caterpillar” rubber band bracelet can become a pattern for an exclusive model. This item can be used either in your own wardrobe as jewelry or presented to someone as an original gift.

Bracelet "Caterpillar": colorful, voluminous accessory on four posts.

The “Caterpillar” style is a very beautiful weaving method, following several rules of which you can weave a bracelet in volume. To create this stylish accessory, you will need some “details”:

1. Rubber bands in three shades: pink, light green and purple.
2. The simplest hook.
3. S-clasp for fastening the bracelet.
4. Small weaving machine.

To weave the “Caterpillar”, 4 columns will be enough. At the very beginning, two pink rubber bands are placed on diagonal posts (crosswise). In this case, both rubber bands are twisted in a figure eight.

From now on, the rubber bands will simply be thrown over the posts. Now you should take two elastic bands of the second color (they will be light green). Light green rubber bands are also placed crosswise on diagonal posts (this is how all other elastic bands will be worn).

In the same way, the next two purple rubber bands are thrown on.

The bottom rubber band (this time pink) must be removed from all the columns, but there is one “BUT”: the rubber bands must also be removed strictly crosswise. And so, if the first rubber band is removed from the first near column, then the next rubber band will be removed from the second far column.

Now two more pink elastic bands are put on. In order not to get confused about what color you need to throw on, it’s worth remembering that the color of the elastic band you put on must match the color of the four you threw off.

Now the bottom four rubber bands (now light green) will be thrown off crosswise.

Since light green rubber bands were discarded, at this stage two rubber bands of the same color should be put on. Next, you will need to throw off four purple ones, one by one, from the diagonal columns.

When the bracelet is long enough to wrap around the wrist, the “Caterpillar” should be completed. Since the bracelet started with pink rubber bands, it would be correct to finish it with the same color.

And so, from the very top, the last two pink elastic bands are worn crosswise. Now, from the diagonal columns, first all the light green, and then all the purple rubber bands are discarded, one by one. This way, only pink rubber bands will remain on the machine.

All remaining pink rubber bands must be changed to one of the columns (in any order).

Now a clasp is threaded through all the pink elastic bands.

The process of creating the “Caterpillar” is over! You can proceed to evaluating the result.

Welcome to a master class on weaving an elastic bracelet from beads and beads, shaped like a caterpillar!

Several options for the Caterpillar bracelet

Before we start...

Step 1

Step 1: Before starting to work on the diagrams, I would like to say a few words about working with elastic thread. It is much thicker than fishing line, because it is less durable, so that it does not tear, it is made more dense. Nevertheless elastic thread Available in different thicknesses, the author usually uses elastic beading thread with a diameter of 0.5 mm. Therefore, before stringing the bead into the work, the author pushes the needle without thread through bead to widen the hole in bead. But this can only be done with “soft” beads type artificial pearls(as in the photo), widen the hole glass beads, beads and bugles will not work! What else can you do to make it easier? elastic thread through beads- this is to use a needle, but the needle must have a hole large enough to fit into it elastic thread, and at the same time, the needle must be thin enough to pass through bead! Therefore, by definition, some beads cannot be used with elastic thread.

As a rule, small beads have a hole wide enough to pass through once elastic thread. Therefore, in this project we will always go through the beads once, while through large artificial pearls- repeatedly. If you've already passed through bead with elastic thread at least once, and you have difficulty going through it again, there is one trick: you can pull elastic thread, passing in a bead so that it becomes thinner. Then you will have a wider gap to pull the thread through again. bead.

One final note before you get started: this job can be done equally well on a fishing line, but advantage of elastic thread in front of the fishing line is that you will not need any fastener or there will be no need to do bracelet wide enough so that it fits freely through a closed palm. However, if you are a beginner beader, using fishing line will be MUCH easier for you.

Step 2

Step 2: For this bracelet you can use beads imitating stones (look at photographs of samples bracelets posted in this master class, you can use large beads any size - from medium to very large). You can equally well use beads from a wide variety of materials... both artificial and natural! For example, pearls, as in the example under consideration, or beads tiger's eye or any other material that comes to your mind (maybe rose quartz?). You will also need some medium size beads(approximately 1/5 of the diameter large beads). For this purpose, the author used small artificial pearls. Lastly, you will need beads. In the example given, the author used small beads as " small beads" in combination with medium sized pearls as " large beads". Chopped glass beads - as " small beads"in combination with very large artificial pearls as " large beads"You will also need about 3 meters elastic thread 0.5 mm in diameter and a suitable needle.

So let's start with set 2 medium size beads, then large beads, then 2 more beads medium size on elastic thread. Large bead marked with a blue dot and then the same blue mark on this bead other photos will be saved to make it easier for you to navigate.

Step 3

Step 3: Now dial another one large bead and cross both ends in it elastic thread and or fishing line as shown in the photo.

Step 4

Step 4: Now pull the thread tightly and place 3 “small” beads on each end of the elastic thread. Place one medium bead on one end of the elastic thread so that you can pass the other end of the thread through it in the opposite direction in the next step. Now follow the direction of the colored arrows, since each end of the thread will be marked throughout the master class with its chosen color.

A little about how tight to pull the elastic thread. As tight as you can get it, but that means the threads should still have some elasticity of their own afterwards. You will feel it yourself, but, nevertheless, do not overtighten the threads, otherwise they will not stretch when putting on the bracelet. Thus, the threads should be taut, but not overtightened.

Step 5

Step 5: This step is quite simple. Simply thread the other end of the elastic thread through a medium sized bead. Notice that the arrows have switched places because the threads have switched places, crossing each other in the bead.

Step 6

Step 6: This step shows you several actions. First, you can see that we will be going through the previously cast bead (marked with the blue dot) again. But before you pull the ends of the elastic thread through this bead, make sure that you collect 3 more small beads on each of the ends of the elastic thread (for clarity, the photo shows how to do this on one side only, but the same thing is needed do it on the other side as well). Red dots mark small beads that need to be collected in this step. These will also be labeled for clarity in the next step.

Step 7

Step 7: Here, too, small beads that should have been collected on the right side are marked with red dots. Small beads, similarly located on the left side, should also have been cast on in the previous step. Now you can see the result of the intersection of threads in a large bead, marked with a blue dot. Small beads crosswise braid the pearls; a medium-sized bead is located in the center of the cross-shaped braid. Congratulations - you have completed the first bracelet fragment!

Step 8

Step 8: Upon completion of the next segment. Cast on, as we did in the beginning, 2 sets of 2 medium-sized beads with one large bead in the center between them. But while last time we cast them on sequentially, this time we cast on 2 medium beads on each end of the elastic thread and cross the threads into a large bead.

Note on this step: Once you complete this step, instead of moving on to the next step, you could continue weaving in a similar manner. (Assembling set after set of 4 medium beads, broken down the center by 1 large bead, and crossing the strands in the large bead each time) until you have "finished" the bracelet (that is, until you have weaved it long enough to close around the wrist). Then, after this, you could work backwards along the workpiece and pick up beads while braiding the warp. Or, if you want to see what your bracelet will look like in the end, you can weave the base and braid of the bracelet piece by piece from start to finish. (Which, in reality, may be more difficult to do, but it’s good to be able to cope with difficult things, and then find easier ways on your own. When you learn only simple things, you may not be able to do difficult ones). It should also be mentioned that when you weave a bracelet layer by layer, rather than piece by piece (a more complex method), you will also have less thread consumption for the entire work, and thus it will be easier to pull the thread through the beads (the ends through each the bead passes less often). Therefore, if you find it difficult to pull the thread through the beads, make the base of the bracelet from white beads, and then the braid from pink beads.

Step 9

Step 9: This is NOT the next step. This photo illustrates what was just discussed about how you can first complete the base of the bracelet without the bead braid by sequentially picking up the medium beads and crossing the strands at the larger beads. Then, you can make a second layer of beads as a braid using the method described above. This is an excellent method for beginners, and also, as already mentioned, in this case it takes less thread to work.

Step 10

Step 10: However, if you like challenges and want to immediately see what you can do, continue. Omitted here are the steps where you string 3 beads onto each end of the elastic cord and then cross them into a medium sized bead, then string 3 more beads onto each end of the elastic strand. And now we are getting ready to cross the threads again in the same large pearl, marked with a blue dot!! (we promise this is the last time).

Step 11

Step 11: We have already crossed for the third time a large artificial pearl marked with a blue dot. Please note that the black dots mark the middle beads on one of the sides of the work. They will be important in the next step.

Step 12

Step 12: Here you can see a workaround for bringing the ends of the elastic thread up to continue weaving the bracelet. Pass each end of the elastic thread through medium-sized beads on both sides. For clarity, this action is shown on one side only, but can be done on both sides! For clarity, the medium sized beads being passed through are marked with black dots.

Step 13

Step 13: Once you have brought the ends of the thread up, pass them through a large bead in order to continue weaving the bracelet.

Step 14

Step 14: Here, in general, a repetition of several previous steps is shown. You simply move on to the next piece, adding 2 medium sized beads to each end of the elastic thread, and then cross the strands into one large bead. For clarity, the newly cast beads are marked with purple dots.

Step 15

Step 15: Here's another repeat (although several steps are combined!) of how you cast on 3 beads on each end of an elastic thread, cross them into a medium-sized bead, then cast on 3 more beads on each end, then cross the ends into a large one. bead located in the fragment below the one you are working on. After this, you will need to pass each end of the elastic thread again through the 2 medium sized beads located on each side of the bracelet, and then finally cross the threads again into the large bead (marked with a purple dot in this photo). Then continue weaving in the same spirit again and again! (in the example given, only 23 fragments were made using beads of this size, that is, medium artificial pearls).

Step 16

Step 16: Here you will see how to finish the bracelet after the desired bracelet length has been reached. Do not add a new large bead to the last piece!! Instead, reuse the very first bead you wove into the bracelet (the end bead on the opposite side of the bracelet). Simply pass the ends of the thread through it, as you would with a newly cast on large bead. This should connect the two ends of the bracelet and complete the loop! In this photo, the bead of the final fragment is marked with a green dot, and the starting large bead of the bracelet is marked with a red dot. The same familiar blue dot bead (which was actually the first large bead cast on) is also labeled here for clarity. It is not the bead at the very end of the bracelet, if you remember. During weaving, it rose up, becoming the second in the bracelet sequence.

Step 17

Step 17: By crossing the threads in the first bead of the bracelet (marked with a red dot), you should collect beads that will allow you to form a cross braid, similar to the other pieces of the bracelet. So, as before, string 3 beads onto each end of the elastic, cross them into a medium sized bead, then string 3 more beads onto each end, and then STOP for a minute. Do NOT cross the threads in the large bead marked with the green dot, as you have been doing all along. Instead, only pass one of the two ends of the elastic thread through it (in the photo, it is the end marked with a red arrow), and NOT the other end. Leave this end free because you want both ends to be on the same side. And, indeed, as soon as you pass one end of the elastic thread through the large bead marked with a green dot, you will see that both ends of the elastic thread are on the same side of the bracelet. Great, because now you need to tie the knot. Accordingly, for strength, tie two or three consecutive knots, and then trim the ends of the threads short. If you were working on fishing line, go through a few beads along the way before trimming the ends, as knots tied on fishing line are not as strong as knots made on elastic thread. Moreover, since elastic thread stretches, even if you stretch the elastic thread, hiding it in the beads as you weave, it will come out.

Step 18

Step 18: A note about tying knots on elastic thread: these are not the same knots you would tie on fishing line or other thread. You must fold and pull both ends of the elastic thread together, and then simultaneously wrap them around themselves (similar to working with a double thread), then pull both ends out of the knot and at the same time tighten the knot tightly. This differs from a regular knot in that you intertwine the two ends but do not hold them tightly together. We hope this photo and instructions help you a little!

Step19

Step 19:
Here is an image of the finished bracelet, which was made using the beads recommended in this master class. Namely: 23 "large beads" (8mm plastic pearls), 23x12 (=276) beads and 23X5 (=115) 3mm small plastic pearls. Thus, for each large pearl there were 12 beads and 5 small pearls.

Step 20

Step 20:
This is a photo of Tess's Caterpillar bracelet! Here is her brief description of it, including the materials used (the bracelet looks shorter than the one described above!), and the time it took to work. You can make your own bracelet too!

“Materials: 3 meters of elastic thread with a diameter of 0.5 mm, size 11/0 beads, 19 pieces of 8mm round beads and 95 pieces of 4mm round beads. This is enough for a bracelet that is 7 1/2 inches (about 19 cm) long by 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide. I'm not sure what kind of beads they were, but they looked a lot like glass beads.
Time to work: While working on this project, I managed to watch several cartoons on the Internet, so I’m not sure exactly how long the work took. If I immediately had all the necessary beads at hand, I believe that the work would have taken about 3 hours, but I had to experiment.”

Rubber bracelets

Children's handicrafts have a positive effect on the development of personality and creativity. Rainbow Loom Bands are a new children's hobby that have become widespread. The founder of this hobby was Cheong Chun Ng. The engineer patented the invention of a special rubber band weaving machine and began producing entire handicraft kits. You can knit various products from rubber bands, from bracelets to more complex accessories. In this article you will learn how to do rubber bracelets using a special machine and you can watch videos of different weaving techniques.

We hope you liked this article How to make bracelets from rubber bands. You will find more DIY crafts.

The decorative bracelet for jewelry has long been one of the latest fashion trends, and at the same time its popularity is only growing among young people. They are worn on the wrist, ankles, or simply decorate backpacks and handbags with them.

Among them, decorations made from multi-colored bright rubber bands occupy a special place. Many ways have been invented to weave this craft in various ways to create original patterns.

In many stores or just on the market there are special stands with this type of product. The assortment is so large that you can easily find a bauble to suit your taste. But you will probably be interested in making a bracelet yourself so that it turns out original and unlike others.

Today we will tell you how to weave this craft from rubber bands with a caterpillar pattern in different ways.

How to weave a caterpillar bracelet from rubber bands on a machine?

On the machine, remove the middle row and turn the columns so that their empty sides point to the right.

Take two loops and place them in a cross, turning each one over in a figure eight.

Again, take two irises of a different color and put them on in the same way, but without turning them over.

Pull the third row without twisting. The color is the same as the first layer.

Now take the hook and start weaving. Take the very bottom and move it to the center.

Do the same with the remaining three columns.

Take the white circles and put them on again without twisting them.

Again, from below, remove the rubber rings to the center from all the posts on the machine.

Again, put on the blue blanks with a crosshair and flip the bottom to the top.

Now you need to remove the rubber band bracelet from the machine and close it.

To do this, take a hook and remove all layers onto its base, one by one, from each protrusion of the machine.

With the other tip you need to hook all the layers of the opposite side in the same way. To make it easier, you can do this operation on a machine. To do this, pull a couple of layers over two protrusions and hook them.

All is ready! Now you know how to weave a bracelet from rubber bands using a machine.

In a similar way, you can weave such a bracelet from rubber bands on two forks connected to each other. You repeat all the steps, only instead of the four columns of the machine, use the four outer tines of the forks, so we won’t describe everything again.

In case something is not clear to you from the screenshots, we have posted a video below especially for you.

How to weave a bracelet from rubber bands on a slingshot?

Take the slingshot and put the first layer of the main color, which you will have in the center, on both bases, wrapping it in the shape of a figure eight. You put on the second one, which will go on the sides, without turning it over.

Using a hook, you throw the bottom in the shape of a figure eight to the top from each column.

You can immediately attach the lock (clip) so that you don’t have to worry about putting it on later.

Again, place two irises on the right side and one on both at once.

Grab the bottom row again and move it to the center on both sides.

You should notice that the base has started to grow in length on the right side.

You continue to weave.

Throw three rings on the right side and one more on both.

Place the bottom row in the center, as you have already done.

Use your fingers to grab the bottom three rows and move them to the center.

Continue weaving, repeating the same steps. Again, put on three elastic bands on the right and one common one.

Throw the lower layers on both sides to the center, then do the same with the right three irises.

You should have three rings.

Continue weaving until the rubber band bracelet reaches the length you need.

To finish, put three irises on the right protrusion and one common one on both.

Throw the bottom three layers in turn from right to middle, then the remaining three.

Place one ring on both protrusions and transfer the bottom row to it on the right and left.

Hook the resulting layers on one protrusion with the other side of the lock (clip).

That's all, the craft is ready!

If something is unclear to someone, see the video at the beginning of this method for details.

If you don't have a slingshot, you can do this craft even on two fingers. Now let's take a closer look at how this is done.

How to weave a caterpillar bracelet on your fingers?

Please note that before you begin this method of weaving, make sure that no one will distract or disturb you, since your fingers will be busy, and we think you will hardly want to do it all over again.

Place one iris on two fingers, turning it over in the shape of a figure eight.

On top you put on two more of the same color, but you no longer need to twist them.

Transfer the bottom row to the middle from both fingers.

Take the same color and put it on without turning it over.

Again, throw the lowest layers into the middle.

You will end up with two rows on each finger.

Now you need to make sure that there are three layers again. To do this, take another iris and place it over your fingers without twisting and again bring the bottom to the center.

Continue weaving in the same way until the craft reaches the desired length. From time to time you can change the colors to make it look more original.

When the craft reaches the length you need, it needs to be finished. To do this, throw the lower layers again to the center. There will be one loop left on each finger.

Remove them on your finger and attach them to the empty space of the lock.

That's all! You can wear it and enjoy!

For more details, watch the video at the beginning of this method.

As you can see, this type of weaving is quite simple, so even a beginner can easily learn it, but the result will exceed all your expectations, and you will certainly be able to please a person by giving him such a decoration made by yourself.

In addition, you do not have to buy a special weaving machine, which is not that cheap.

By the way, when you master this type of weaving, you can easily experiment with other weaving methods that your imagination will create while creating crafts.

In any case, if you weave it yourself, combining different colors, the result will be an original and bright decoration that no one else probably has. And if you interest a child in this process, he will probably become interested in this type of creativity, and who knows, maybe this will become his main hobby.

Good luck everyone and happy weaving!
